ClassicGaming.com's Museum Other
Systems
This section is pretty self-explanatory and covers some of
the less popular systems.
Systems (in alphabetical order):
Amstrad
The Amstrad (also known by other names, such as the Amstrad
CPC) was an early '80s computer system which was popular in
Europe.
Atari 5200
The successor of the wildly successful Atari
2600, the 5200 was never the success Atari planned it to
be, owing much to its inability to play 2600 games and its
horrible controllers.
Game Gear
Basically a portable version of the Sega Master
System, the Game Gear was a color portable released in the
early '90s.
Jaguar
Atari's last attempt at a home videogame system, this
"64-bit" console was the final nail in Atari's coffin.
Lynx
Atari's 16-bit color portable.
MSX
The MSX was another early '80s computer system, designed to
be a worldwide computer standard (like a PC). It was
especially popular overseas and was still sold in Japan up
until the early '90s.
Neo Geo
An early '90s system with graphics and sound that totally
blew away existing systems of the time. Unfortunately, it's
incredibly high price prevented it from ever gaining much of a
following.
Sega CD
The Sega CD was an expansion of the Sega
Genesis which more than doubled the Genesis' available
RAM, added an additional sound processor, and a chip that
enabled hardware scaling and rotation, similar to the SNES's
famed Mode 7. Poor marketing, a high price, and a lack of
software support prevented the system from catching on.
